The multidisciplinary upgrade scheme on the A38 was the winner at last night’s Highways Awards. The judges commented that the scheme “Demonstrated the benefits of real collaboration to help improve a vital area of the strategic road network”.

In reviewing the report we are disappointed by the lack of progress being made on improving road safety in Great Britain. There were 1,793 reported road deaths in 2017, a figure that’s barely changed since 2010. That’s an average of five fatalities per day.

Transforming the most dangerous roads in the UK with Safer Roads Funding

The safer roads fund was established in 2016 to target the 50 most dangerous ‘A’ roads in England. Targeting the most dangerous parts of the network in this way is expected to both save lives and provide an effective return on investment. We’ve seen many times over the difference that simple measures such as improved road markings can make to road safety. Most recently, SolarLite Active Road Studs have been deployed in North Lincolnshire thanks to Safer Roads Funding.
