Embedding sustainability in everything we do at Clearview Traffic

‘Sustainability’ is a word that is increasingly referenced within the corporate world.

In the context of business, sustainability represents resilience over time – those with healthy economic, social and environmental systems have a better chance of evolving and surviving, and in turn, these businesses create economic value and contribute to healthy ecosystems and strong communities.

Clearview Traffic boosts sustainability through product development

Clearview Traffic can help to address this directly through the type of products that we offer the market – such as our solar powered active road studs and intelligent transport systems that collate data and insights that are integral to delivering a more efficient and sustainable road network and the development of Smart Cities.

However, equally important is that we adopt sustainable business practices and social responsibility on a broader scale by investing in our people and our local community, and entrenching sustainable practices within our operations and supply chains.

With this in mind, Clearview Traffic recently signed up as a member of Business in the Community (BITC)

BITC engages with thousands of businesses to encourage corporate responsibility and drive change.

By collaborating with BITC, Clearview Traffic can continue to develop sustainable best practice that will benefit both the business and external stakeholders.

An ongoing commitment to a sustainable CSR strategy

We will not be starting from scratch in this endeavour though.

Following the success of launching our CSR strategy last year, we have reviewed our targets for 2014-2015 and we already have some fantastic initiatives underway.

For example, we will be actively supporting the National Association for Blood Bikes as voted for by our staff as Charity of the Year. The Blood Bikes groups across the UK rely on unpaid volunteer motorcycle riders to provide a rapid response courier service, to NHS hospitals. They transport anything from blood, platelets, plasma, serum, and surgical instruments, to patient’s notes, X-rays, donor milk and MRI scans.

Taking sustainability into the local community

Clearview Traffic has also been active in our local community and continues to work closely with Bicester Vision and its stakeholders to promote inward investment.

We have been building contacts with local secondary schools through the provision of Apprenticeship opportunities and work experience placements.

We recently invited local primary schools to participate in a road safety poster design competition in association with the Roadwise Primary Schools project offering the winning school a free ‘5alive Roadwise’ teacher training pack for use with all year groups.

Sustainability – the bigger picture

On a broader scale, we participated as a Partner in the Cheltenham Science Festival. Our Strategic Advisor, Dr Stephen Ladyman, was a guest speaker at the Smart Cities seminar, presenting his views on the impact that intelligent transport systems will have on the cities of the future.

Additionally, Clearview Traffic provided the necessary funding to subsidise Finlay Road Community School in Gloucester to take 100 pupils along to the exciting schools events that were on offer throughout the festival in order to encourage an interest in science, engineering and technology from an early age.
