How the Smart Cities road traffic management model benefits more than just journey times

As an innovative market leader in the provision of road traffic solutions, traffic data solutions, traffic data collection and traffic management systems, Clearview Traffic, have always been enthusiastic about ensuring our products are sustainable, minimally invasive, and preferably solar-powered or low-powered.

This sits alongside our vision of striving to assist in the development of the Smart Cities model, whereby real-time traffic data collection and distribution helps make the lives of motorists, cyclists and pedestrians as safe and comfortable as possible – whilst also having minimal environmental impact.

We are also keen to further develop our corporate responsibility through participation in community engagement activities, and offering support to a range of non-profit initiatives which link directly to our business sector. As the amount of traffic continues to rise, and transport networks become increasingly complex, the issue of road safety becomes more important, and will prove an essential component of the Smart Cities vision.

Whilst our Astucia and Golden River products help road-users, local authorities and highways operators to reduce casualties, we believe it’s also imperative to do what we can on a social level to promote safer road use for pedestrians and cyclists.

It is especially important to ensure that children are aware of the potential dangers surrounding them, and how to stay safe.

With this in mind, and to tie-in with our existing commercial work on cycleway and greenwayprojects in Edinburgh, South Ayrshire, and Dundee, we also recently donated LED bike lights to school children as part of Glasgow City Council’s ‘Bikeability’ scheme.

We hope that we can expand our involvement in this type of initiative to our schools across our regional bases and UK Headquarters – for example, supporting activities in ‘Bike To School Week’ and ‘Child Safety Week’, delivering messages about road safety awareness and cycle training.

We’re also currently liaising with a local primary school and the County Council to investigate whether we can sponsor a school crossing patrol person to improve safety for pupils on their journey to school.

Ultimately, we aim to deliver innovative road traffic solutions to help reduce casualties, minimise congestion and increase safety across the capacity and effectiveness of road networks.

It’s critically important that this begins at a grassroots level – with our kids.
