How to install an M100 Wireless Vehicle Detection Sensor

When comparing Clearview’s Wireless Vehicle Detection System to inductive loops one of the key benefits is the speed and ease of installation.

The system uses an M100 Sensor to detect vehicles. This is the only piece of equipment installed in the road surface. It is installed in a small hole in the centre of the carriageway. In contrast, loops must span most of the carriageway, with the loop tails running across the carriageway back to the cabinet. This compromises the integrity of the road surface and can require repeated maintenance.

Combining the need for maintenance with the longer installation time means your road workers are in the road far longer and more often when loops are used than when an M100 Sensor is used. This increases their exposure to risk and the disruption to road users.

The M100 Sensor relays vehicle detection data back to an M110 Access Point, either directly or via M115 Repeater units. These are mounted on poles at the side of the road, so nothing other than the small sensor needs to be installed in the road.

Installing an M100 Sensor is quick and easy. The sensor can be installed, the resin cured, and the carriageway reopened all in 15 minutes. Even though it's easy, it's important to install the Sensor correctly as the entire Wireless Vehicle Detection System comes with a five-year warranty when installed correctly. See for yourself how quick and easy this is to do in our demonstration video:

This video shows a deep installation where the sensor is installed below the wearing course of the road. Following installation, the road can be planed and resurfaced without the need to remove and reinstall the sensor. This provides further benefits compared to inductive loops, which would need to be installed anew into the resurfaced road.

The system provides vehicle detection for applications including:

signalised junctions, Motorway Incident Detection and Automatic Signals (MIDAS), Ramp Metering, and route safety solutions such as Queue Protection. Find out more about each application in our Solution Design Guide.

We offer full, free of charge training on how to install the M100 Wireless Vehicle Detection System. Get in touch if you’d like to reserve a space on the next training course.
