Meet the Team: Chris Keenan, General Manager Scotland

1) What’s your career with Clearview Intelligence been like so far?

I first joined Clearview Intelligence in 2006 as a Survey Supervisor for the temporary survey side of the company, Count On Us. From there, I moved to Survey Manager with responsibility for traffic surveys being completed all over the UK, Scotland and Republic of Ireland.

In 2012, I took on the role of Solutions Manager looking after Scotland and Northern Ireland and most recently, was promoted to General Manager Scotland.

2) What are the responsibilities for the General Manager Scotland?

It’s a combination of strategic and operational. With my new role I am responsible for the general delivery of project operations and continuing our successful sales here in Scotland. It’s about business development and managing relationships with key clients whilst overseeing the operational side.

3) Why such a strong focus on Scotland?

We have built a very good set of relationships with leading clients in the Scottish infrastructure and we have gained that trusted advisor status; we want to maintain that by continuing to exceed expectations. Strategy is really important to us; we recognise Scotland as a major part of the transport infrastructure for the UK and that is reflected in the fact our Glasgow office celebrates being in operation for 21 years this year (2018).

4) What does a typical day in the office include?

I am new to the role so still gauging what a typical day looks like! Ideally, I like to spend the start and end of the week with the engineers working out of Glasgow, keeping up to date on what they are doing over the next week, what they have done and anything that needs to be reviewed or addressed. Then during the middle of the week it’s about visiting sites and meeting clients and customers to discuss opportunities for solutions and road safety improvements.

5) What’s the most rewarding element of your job?

For me it’s about working with a customer get a solution and taking them on the journey from that first thought through to installation and then finally seeing the solution do what it’s supposed to do. Or helping them when they have an idea but don’t know how to execute it. It’s about reducing collisions and making people feel safer. Internally, it’s seeing the team grow and move throughout the company and supporting promotions throughout the team.

6) What’s the most challenging part of your job?

The job in itself is a new challenge for me. I have been with the senior solutions team for the past six years so this is something new to get my teeth into. I think within the role, one of the main challenges will be organising the team and coming up with new and effective structures which will really support people doing what they need to do and enable them to prioritise.

7) What’s one thing you’ve learned in your time at Clearview Intelligence?

The company supports progression; if you work hard you will get rewarded.

8) What are you currently working towards?

I want to keep moving forward; I don’t want to stay still and have things get stagnant. I’m always trying to learn new things; it isn’t always easy but I have great support from James Turner, Director of Operations and Andy Salotti, Head of Solutions as my mentors.
