Clearview Intelligence discuss the importance of industry recognition and independent research on road safety schemes

The A720 Sheriffhall Roundabout connects several key roads around Edinburgh and handles upwards of 42,000 vehicles a day. This means any incidents on the roundabout lead to major and far reaching disruption.

Clearview Intelligence with partners Transport Scotland, BEAR Scotland, Edinburgh Napier University and Amey implemented an Intelligent Road Stud solution to reduce incidents on the roundabout. The scheme can be seen in action on our Sheriffhall roundabout case study.

The A720 Sheriffhall Roundabout scheme attracted widespread industry recognition in 2016, winning awards from the National Transport Awards, the Highways Magazine Excellence Awards, the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation and the Scottish Transport Awards.

The below interview took place at the Highways Magazine Excellence Awards 2016. Nick Lanigan and Richard Llewellyn discuss how this solution demonstrates an innovative approach to road safety issues and provides an example that should be adopted as best practice and rolled out to other scenarios, thus mirroring the judges comment that: “The developed solution is transferable to numerous other sites throughout the UK”.

The importance of industry recognition for the hard work of those who worked on the scheme is also highlighted, as is the importance of independent research and a solid evidence base when justifying road safety schemes.
