In his keynote speech, Alastair King explained how solar-powered active road studs, which emit a light through LEDs rather than reflect light from headlights, positively influencedriver behaviour such as vehicle braking points, speed and vehicle positioning, as well as reducing lane transgressions at roundabouts, junctions and the impact active studs have on driver behaviour both before and after active road studs were installed. Our SolarLite product has been found to reduce night-time crashes by around 70%.  “42% of road deaths occur during darkness, despite only 22% of traffic being on the road, so these studs make a life-saving difference,” he said.

Alastair then stressed the environmental benefit too.  “With a greater demand for sustainable smart infrastructure which encourages safer movement of people, our active studs are powered using carbon-friendly renewable energies and a sustainable alternative to driver guidance by street lighting,” he said.  “Compared to even LED street lighting, the sustainability benefits of SolarLite are significant,” he added.  “It’s not an empty boast to say SolarLite is the most sustainable road stud in the world.”

Alastair was chosen to speak after successfully passing the programme committee’s vetting process to ensure only the most innovative global transport solutions are featured at the four-day event, which has been expanded from the organisation’s usual domestic summit in order to offer a world-wide event in support of this year’s ITS World Congress, which is taking place in China with a limited international attendance.

Alastiar will now spend the rest of the week showing off SolarLite and other Clearview products ClickLite and Connex Active in the event’s exhibition.
