Wireless Detection

Wireless detection solutions have been driven by the industry requirement for less invasive technologies. Our range began with the M100 Magnetometer, followed by the M100BR (Bike Radar). In 2020 we added to our wireless detection offering with the Connex Active, a Lidar based pedestrian and cycle counter-classifier.

M100 Wireless Vehicle Detection System

The M100 wireless vehicle detection system utilises a compact magnetometer sensor that is deployed in the centre of a traffic lane at the same point at which you would install inductive loops, but without the cost, invasiveness and traffic disruption associated with the slot cutting, ducting and trenching work needed to install and maintain loops on a regular basis.

Its unique design allows the vehicle detection sensor to be buried beneath the wearing course of the road up to a depth of 175mm, eliminating the need for the product to be removed from the road during resurfacing.

The vehicle detection events from the sensor are relayed back to the traffic signal controller via the system’s in-built low powered two way radio communications. Despite its compact size and weight, the M100 has an impressive 8-10 year battery life. Since there’s no trenching or ducting involved in the installation, the slimline profile of the magnetometer sensors means that they can be installed quickly and easily, minimising disruption to local traffic and reducing the costs of traffic management. The system is Type approved to UK specification TR2512A and approved to Highways England standard MCH1529. It is the only such system to be compatible with all types and makes of MIDAS outstations and urban traffic light systems such as SCOOT, MOVA and System D.

  • Superior reliability and longer operational life than your average loop

M100BR Radar Bicycle Detector

M100BR Radar

Designed for use on cycle lane approaches and at Advanced Stop Lines, the M100BR Bicycle Radar Detector integrates seamlessly with the other components of the M100 wireless vehicle detection system to enable bicycles to be detected and considered as part of the traffic flow, enabling timing and phasing of traffic signals to be adjusted to significantly enhance junction safety for cyclists, instantly increasing their visibility to other road users and ensuring fair passage for all road users.

The M100BR sensor incorporates an extremely low power, wide-band radar with secure radio technology and sensors are installed very close to the roadway surface and are capable of detecting trains, cars, trucks, bicycles and pedestrians. M100BR sensors are also capable of detecting and distinguishing objects in motion from objects that are stationary and large objects from small objects.

Features

  • Works in conjunction with the M100 system
  • Specifically designed for in-road bicycle detection
  • Fast and simple in-road installation with no wires, ducting or trenching
  • Ultra-low power communications protocol with reliable two-way communications with access point
  • Re-usable and remotely upgradeable

  • More durable than traditional loops
  • User definable detection zone
  • 6.3GHz wide band radar detector
  • Type Approved to Highways England specification TR2512A
  • Easy user configuration and reporting using Traffic Dot (Java Application)

Benefits

  • Accurate and reliable bicycle detection that allows for integration into the traffic flow and makes cyclists visible to other traffic
  • Integrates seamlessly with an existing vehicle detection system, lowering costs by leveraging existing infrastructure and communications
  • Rapid installation and deployment reduces road closures, worker exposure and traffic disruption
  • More reliable and cost effective than traditional inductive loops
  • Superior reliability and longer operational life than your average loop
  • Does not suffer from occlusion unlike above ground technologies

Connex Active

Connex Active: Pedestrian and Bicycle Classifier

Pedestrian and Bicycle Classifier

The Connex Active is an accurate real-time Pedestrian and Bicycle Classifier for active travel detection and analysis. It utilises the latest LIDAR technologies to provide a non-invasive detection and classification solution for pedestrians and bicycles.

Designed for permanent use alongside foot and cycle paths as a solar or mains powered solution within a single unit. The detection range is configurable up to 7 metres without the need for an additional receiver unit as seen in traditional solutions of this type.

The use of LIDAR technology enables the creation of virtual lanes based on the distance of the object detected, this can be used to understand if potential conflicts are occurring on segregated pedestrian and cycle paths.

An optional 4G or ethernet communications module provides the ability to deliver real-time or scheduled data to Clearview’s Insight® Data Management platform or to any other system using open standards data formats and protocols.

The integrated contact closure and logic controller means the unit can be used for active travel safety schemes and data collection all in a single solution.

Features

  • 95% pedestrian and bicycle classification with direction
  • 98% pedestrian and bicycle detection with direction
  • Integrated real-time communications
  • Integrated general-purpose input/output
  • Solar, power over ethernet or mains powered
  • Data Integration with Insight but data also available to third parties
  • Detection up to 7m from the counter
  • Virtual lanes to detect adherence to pedestrian and cycle lane designation

Benefits

  • Real-time communications provide instant data on pedestrian and bicycle users to understand the potential impact on services and infrastructure.
  • Sustainable solar-powered classifier with integrated communications provides the ideal off-grid solution, enabling deployment in rural areas and reducing the costs of provisioning power.
  • Automated data retrieval, monitoring and reporting through Insight provides an easy to use platform for maintenance and analysis.
  • Integrated general-purpose input and output enables the solution to be used to trigger external systems such as Vehicle Activated Signs for safety schemes.
  • Non-invasive detection reduces installation costs compared to loop/piezo solutions and removes the risk of damage caused by pavement repairs and works by services.
